Moorefield Volleyball defended the Hive against the Lady Cougars with a straight set match victory by the scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-15.
In JV action, East Hardy garnered the win in three sets 25-18, 19-25 and 25-22.
“From the front row, we swung hard. We hit a little bit of a drought there, but they kept swinging through it and kept coming. Back row movement, there were phases of inconsistency. It was like a little rollercoaster, there were some clean bring ups and we would be rocky. We fought our way through it. Overall it was a solid game and we’ll take the three sets and move on to the next game. We will continue on to the next part of the season. Anytime you play a rival, emotions are going to be high and you don’t know which team will come to the floor,” Moorefield coach Morgan Hill-See commented.
The Lady Yellow Jackets started with a 2-0 lead in the first game as an attack by East Hardy’s Erin Riggle was met with a dig by Moorefield’s Sydney Hardy and returned for a point as the ball ricocheted off the Lady Cougars out of play and Gracie O’Neill’s attack wasn’t returnable.
A volley from Moorefield’s Remi Hinkle sailed out before East Hardy had two shots hit the net.
Riggle garnered a spike and Emily Dyer served two aces to tie the set at 4-all for the Lady Cougars.
Moorefield went back up 7-4 as a shot by Lindsey Rinker was returned into the net, Hinkle served an ace and Alyson Simmons notched a point on an attack.
