About

Moorefield Examiner OfficeThe Moorefield Examiner has been owned by the same family since 1902 when Samuel Alexander McCoy purchased the paper from his partner, G. W. McCauley.

Following his death in 1935, Mr. Sam’s daughter Katherine and her husband, Ralph E Fisher, became the second generation of publishers. In 1969, their daughter, Phoebe, returned to run the paper with her mother. Phoebe and her husband, David O. Heishman, continue running The Examiner today. They have been joined by the fourth generation, their son James and daughter Hannah.

Hardy County’s only locally owned and operated newspaper is published every Wednesday by the family corporation, the R. E. Fisher Company, Inc. It is located at 132 South Main Street in Moorefield, West Virginia.

The Examiner has a tradition of being an award-winning publication in editorial and advertising. It is the only paper which cares about the people and events affecting Hardy County. As the county grows, The Examiner hopes to grow with it and continue providing news, commentary and information for its readers. Right now the total paid circulation is 3,800 with 2,900 distributed in Hardy County.

In addition to the Moorefield Examiner, the R.E. Fisher Company has printed the Hardy County Weekender since 1991, and it’s newest publication, Old 55 magazine, which began printing in 2017.

To keep up with a increasingly digital world, HardyLive was launched in 2018 to offer real-time news and features that cannot be offered in print.

The Moorefield Examiner has been awarded more than 100 times in the past decade by the West Virginia Press Association, including General Excellence in Advertising and News.
