Robert Milvet is not wasting any time. The Chief Executive Officer of Grant Memorial Hospital had a packet containing the application to resume urgent elective surgeries ready last week.
On April 20, Governor Jim Justice issued an executive order allowing hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers to resume those procedures if they meet certain criteria. The criteria was outlined in a letter on April 21. “These are things we are doing anyway,” Milvet said.
The criteria includes having a plan to safely phase-in surgeries, prioritizing surgeries and chronic disease management, having a plan to adjust those procedures based on the numbers of the COVID-19 cases and ensuring personal protective equipment is available for staff and patients.
According to the Governor’s executive order, applications will not be approved before Tuesday, April 28.
