Hardy County Records First COVID Death

\Hardy County Health Department Administrator Bill Ours had the grim chore of recording Hardy County’s first COVID-19-related death. A 48-year-old man succumbed to the virus last week.

“When you look at social media, people still think this is a hoax,” Ours said. “Hopefully this will be a wake-up call, a reminder that this thing is real and it’s deadly.

“This virus doesn’t care about age, ethnicity, social status, anything.”

As of Monday, Sept. 21, Hardy County has a cumulative total of 82 positive cases. A total of 74 have recovered and the seven active cases are quarantined at home.
