Jackets Golf Repeats Region II Champions, Sets Sights on Wheeling

Moorefield Golf garnered the Class A Region II Championship for a second consecutive season last Tuesday at the Raven Golf Club at Snowshoe Resort to earn a trip to the state tournament at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling this week.

The Yellow Jackets have won the region championship as a team for the seventh time in the last 19 seasons with representation each year since 2007 including individual low-medalist qualifiers. [private]

Moorefield secured the regional title this year with a score of 267 led by freshman low-medalist J.J. Carr with a card of 88, followed by senior Thomas Williams with a score of 89, senior Trace Miller with a score of 90 and sophomore Ryan McGregor rounded out the total at 92.

Carr shot for par on eight holes, McGregor shot for par seven times and made one birdie, while Miller and Williams hit for par five times on the Raven course.

It is a special trip for J.J. Carr and Thomas Williams as both had a pair of older brothers qualify for the state tournament in the past decade.

This is the first state trip for Carr and Williams, but Miller and McGregor have experience having played in Wheeling last year as part of the championship team.

The Yellow Jackets proved that making consistent shots on each hole and focusing on improving at each hole was crucial for success.
Tucker County traded spots with the Yellow Jackets having won the Potomac Valley Conference title and placed as the Region II runner-up this season.

Moorefield Golf will take the entire team to the state tournament and has the option to substitute a player on the second day or fill in due to an illness or injury.

The Yellow Jackets have a talented roster to compliment the qualifying quartet team bringing along Micah Snyder, Hayden Baldwin, Jordan Ketterman, William Barb, Karson Reed and Isaac Rumer.

Baldwin and Reed have competed most of the season in the top six seeding, while Ketterman competed in the girls state invitational at Mingo Bottom Golf Club finishing in the top-20.

Moorefield will be paired with golfers from St. Marys, Charleston Catholic and Parkersburg Catholic at the state tournament this year.[/private]
