Lady Bulldogs Nip East Hardy in Volleyball

Luray Volleyball narrowly escaped the Lady Cougars den in a four set battle last Monday in Baker with the scores of 25-23, 25-20, 22-25 and 26-24.
In JV action, East Hardy took charge pouncing for a victory by 25-17 and 26-24.


“The kids we have on the bench are real excited to play and sometimes they jump up out of turn. Our kids are just late making adjustments. The sooner we make the adjustments, the better off we will be. If the numbers are right, we won each set to 17 and then we didn’t. We need to learn to finish the set. They are coming along and working to get better,” East Hardy coach Marsha Hahn commented.


East Hardy’s SierraMarie Miller had an opening set serve sail out of bounds.


The serve from Luray’s Courtney Fox was returned for a kill by East Hardy’s Rebecca Whetzel.


Whetzel’s serve was ricocheted back into the net by the Lady Bulldogs.
Luray defended an attack by East Hardy’s Emily Yates and responded with a kill by Baylee Burrill.


Emily Dyer made a set for Yates to garner a spike giving the Lady Cougars the lead and Dyer extended the edge to 4-2 by delivering an ace.


An attack by Luray’s Jaidyn McClung was returned out of bounds, then the set was evened on an errant volley off a serve by McClung.


McClung served out of bounds, then East Hardy’s Erin Riggle had a serve returned by Luray’s Brynlee Burrill for a kill. [private]


Spikes by Lindsey Bly and Alison Morrison gave the Lady Bulldogs a 7-5 lead.


East Hardy’s Victoria Ames made a dig with the pass going to Miller setting up Riggle for a spike.


Yates served up a point as the ball wasn’t returned, then Jaden Fleshman had an attack deflect out for the Lady Cougars lead, 8-7.


After a kill from Luray’s Brynlee Burrill, her serve landed in the net.


Fleshman delivered an ace, Dyer’s attack was returned out of bounds and Miller garnered a block as East Hardy went up 12-8.

Burrill pushed a point through a block, then the Lady Cougars had a couple errors on attacks as the set was tied at 15 apiece.


It was back and forth for the next couple of minutes, then Luray gained a little separation going up 20-17 on a kill by Bly.


East Hardy answered with kills from Fleshman and Miller, then Burrill notched a spike.


The Lady Cougars struggled to return a couple serves by Burrill.
Yates notched a point off an attack, but the Lady Bulldogs finished with spike from Morrison to win 25-20.


In the third set, East Hardy took a 4-1 lead as Miller’s serve was returned into the net, Burrill had an attack returned out, Fleshman recorded a kill, Rebecca Whetzel’s serve was returned out and Luray launched an attack out.
