Patrick McGregor started having flashbacks as soon as he walked through the door.

“Hey, Mr. Mac.”

“How’s it goin’?, Mr. Mac.”

“Hi, Mr. Mac.”

“Good morning, Mr. Mac.”

“There were kids I knew, who had just left Moorefield Middle,” he said. “There were teachers I had worked with. It was all very surreal.”

McGregor is talking about the first day he came to Moorefield High School as the “temporary” principal. Robert Miller had unexpectedly resigned in October 2017 and Interim Superintendent Sheena VanMeter was scrambling.

“She asked me to come in temporarily, until the board could find a replacement,” McGregor said. “She let me test the waters.”
