The Lady Yellow Jackets and Pendleton County joined forces in the fight against breast cancer with a special awareness volleyball match last Thursday in the Hive as the Lady Wildcats had pink jerseys and Moorefield went with pink socks and warm-up fundraiser shirts with the inscription of “Pink Out For A Cure, Fight Cancer” informing the community of the statistics and recognizing each person in attendance.
Moorefield Varsity Volleyball won in straight sets over the Lady Wildcats by the scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-12.
In JV action, Pendleton County edged the Lady Yellow Jackets 25-23 and 25-20.

“Our breast cancer game is always special, because there are so many in our community that have been affected by it and still so many fighting the fight. We are proud to give back to them. It can happen to anybody. It is more special, because we had our young campers here too. It is homecoming week, so the energy was high and we had a lot of support tonight. It was a great night. They were ready to play and came out focused.
Things are falling into place for the last part of the season,” Moorefield coach Morgan Hill-See remarked.
Over the past several weeks there has been a youth volleyball camp hosted by Moorefield High School and each member was greeted with a red carpet entrance at the game running through the tunnel of their mentors as they were introduced in front of the crowd as the impact giving back to the community to build the future continues to thrive in the Hive.
Moorefield started the first set with an 8-0 lead over the Lady Wildcats.
A serve by Pendleton County’s Katie Scott landed in the net, then Moorefield’s Lindsey Rinker setup Sydney Hardy for a spike,
Rinker’s serve wasn’t returnable, then Gracie O’Neill and Remington Hinkle made kills as the Lady Yellow Jackets kept buzzing.
An attack by O’Neill was met with a dig by Pendleton County’s Regan Sites and deflected out.
Hardy had an attack returned out by the Lady Wildcats McKenzie Arbaugh before landing a kill for the 8-nil advantage.
Pendleton County’s Braelyn Young’s attack wasn’t returned as the Lady Yellow Jackets collided on defense with the ball ricocheting out, 8-1.
After a volley by Hardy wasn’t returned, O’Neill served into the net.
Moorefield’s Madison McGregor had an attack blocked out of play for a point, then Hinkle delivered two aces for a 12-2 lead.
After a serve into the net, Arbaugh served an ace for the Lady Wildcats and an attack by Sites was deflected out.
Arbaugh served beyond the line and Moorefield responded with an ace by Hardy.
Moorefield’s Hanna Carlson garnered two kills, then Hardy had a serve hit four times by the Lady Wildcats prior to landing a pair of aces to extend the lead to 19-5.
Pendleton County’s Katie Scott notched a point as a dig by Moorefield’s Cassie Mooney deflected out.
Sites served an ace, the the next serve was met on a dig by Moorefield’s Kaleigh Hunt with Rinker making a set for McGregor’s spike, 20-7.
Mooney earned a point off an attack during the serve of Kennedie Hinger.
Hinger’s serve hit the net, then Pendleton County’s Emma Thompson had her serve returned by Carlson into the net.
Rinker’s attack was returned into the net by Scott for a 22-9 score.
Carlson’s serve was hit back into the net, then Mooney made a spike and the set point was an ace from Carlson giving the Lady Yellow Jackets a 25-9 win.
Moorefield went ahead 7-2 in the second set with the help of errors off attacks by Hinkle and Hardy plus service points from O’Neill.
A kill by Hardy came before a serve into the net by Hinkle making it 8-4.
Pendleton County’s McKenzie Arbaugh delivered an ace and the ensuing serve was met with a dig by O’Neill.
McGregor’s attack was deflected out of play, then Hardy served into the net.
Young landed an ace for the Lady Wildcats before an attack by Scott sailed out for a 10-7 score.
Carlson notched a point on an attack and McGregor created a service point with a ricochet back into the net, 12-7.
McGregor had two serves returned out and Carlson sent two attacks that didn’t clear the net on return attempts as Moorefield built a 16-7 lead.
Scott made a spike and Thompson created an ace as Pendleton County chipped away at the deficit.
Moorefield had a volley fly out, then an adjustment was made for a kill by O’Neill.
Rinker served up two aces for a 20-10 advantage for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Pendleton County’s Hannah Swigunski made a kill and Scott’s serve was returned into the net.
Hinkle’s attack was volleyed back into the net before Carlson delivered an ace.
Hinkle blocked a shot by Arbaugh, then Gianna Fair saved the ball bumping it back over.
Moorefield finished the set with a kill by McGregor during a serve by O’Neill for a 25-13 win.
The Lady Yellow Jackets went up 7-1 in the third set starting with a kill by Hinkle and a pair of aces by Rinker.
Hinkle notched another spike before Pendleton County’s Hannah Koontz had an attack returned out.
Hardy created a kill and O’Neill made a service point for the 7-1 score.
After a dig turned into a kill from Hardy, McGregor was on the service line creating a point on a return into the net and facial hit for an ace, 13-4.
Hardy made a dig and O’Neill launched an attack, but Pendleton County’s Arbaugh made a return which was met by McGregor for a kill.
McGregor delivered an ace, then made a dig and an attack by O’Neill went awry before Rinker garnered a block for a 16-5 advantage.
Fair tipped the ball over for a point as the ball ricocheted off of Young.
Hinkle garnered a spike to create a 24-9 lead for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Pendleton County’s Hannah Koontz notched a spike and service point, then Arbaugh made a kill and the final set match point came on a service error out as Moorefield claimed the 25-12, 3-nil victory.
Moorefield visited Franklin last night and returns to action in the Hive against Frankfort on Monday before going to Tygarts Valley on Tuesday.[/private]
The Lady Yellow Jackets have a rematch against East Hardy next Thursday in Baker.
