The Hardy County Public Service District will reinstate its policy to disconnect water customers for lack of payment beginning this month.
“We had suspended cutoffs because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Director Logan Moyers told the Board of Directors. “The state has issued an order to reinstate those cutoffs.”
The Hardy County PSD board met on Wednesday, July 1.
In March, the West Virginia Public Service Commission Chair Charlotte Lane urged local utilities to suspend service terminations for lack of payment.
On June 17, the WV PSC issued an order to resume disconnection for nonpayment, in response to the rescinding of the “stay-at-home” guidelines from the Governor.
“We have one or two dozen customers who haven’t paid their bills,” Moyers said. “Some are approaching $1,000.
“We’ve been in contact with them and they know eventually they will have to pay. They tell us they won’t pay until they have to pay.”
