Moorefield Volleyball defended the Hive against the Lady Cougars with a straight set match victory by the scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-15.
In JV action, East Hardy garnered the win in three sets 25-18, 19-25 and 25-22.
“From the front row, we swung hard. We hit a little bit of a drought there, but they kept swinging through it and kept coming. Back row movement, there were phases of inconsistency. It was like a little rollercoaster, there were some clean bring ups and we would be rocky. We fought our way through it. Overall it was a solid game and we’ll take the three sets and move on to the next game. We will continue on to the next part of the season. Anytime you play a rival, emotions are going to be high and you don’t know which team will come to the floor,” Moorefield coach Morgan Hill-See commented.
The Lady Yellow Jackets started with a 2-0 lead in the first game as an attack by East Hardy’s Erin Riggle was met with a dig by Moorefield’s Sydney Hardy and returned for a point as the ball ricocheted off the Lady Cougars out of play and Gracie O’Neill’s attack wasn’t returnable.
A volley from Moorefield’s Remi Hinkle sailed out before East Hardy had two shots hit the net.
Riggle garnered a spike and Emily Dyer served two aces to tie the set at 4-all for the Lady Cougars.
Moorefield went back up 7-4 as a shot by Lindsey Rinker was returned into the net, Hinkle served an ace and Alyson Simmons notched a point on an attack.

The next serve went out and Simmons launched another attack met by a dig from Riggle and not returned.
Moorefield’s Hanna Carlson landed a spike before an error on a volley and the score 9-6.
East Hardy’s Emily Yates recorded an ace, the ensuing serve was returned into the net and the third serve went out of bounds, 10-8.
Moorefield’s Madison McGregor served and Kaleigh Hunt made two digs off attacks from Rebecca Whetzel and O’Neill made a save on an attack by Riggle.
O’Neill and Whetzel traded spikes, then East Hardy’s Jaden Fleshman served into the net and the Lady Yellow Jackets responded with an ace by Carlson for a 13-9 lead.
An attack by Riggle was deflected out of play, then Hinkle notched a point on an attack after an initial dig by Dyer and the ball found its way to the net.
Rinker served and the Lady Cougars returned the ball into the net and Riggle made an error moments later for a 16-10 score.
Fleshman garnered a kill and Whetzel delivered an ace as East Hardy closed the gap to 16-12.
Yates, Simmons and Hardy each made digs, but both teams had attacks sail out of play.
The Lady Yellow Jackets had a block made by Hinkle, then Hinkle served and Hardy earned a point off an attack returned out for a 19-13 edge.
East Hardy scored the next three points as attacks by Fleshman were returned into the net and Riggle served an ace, 19-16.
The Lady Cougars had an attack fly out of bounds, then Moorefield scored a point on a kill by Carlson during the service from Hardy.
East Hardy’s Perry Whetzel made a dig and Fleshman landed a kill before Moorefield’s Hunt had a dig off a serve from Yates go back over the net and was redirected into the net.
After a service error by the Lady Yellow Jackets, McGregor made a dig off an attack by Dyer and a kill by Carlson created a 23-18 lead.
Hinkle notched a spike and a push attack by O’Neill was returned out by the Lady Cougars to give Moorefield the first set win at 25-18.
“They made way too many errors in the first two sets and they know that. There were too many errors: pass errors, set errors, serve errors. It was a day of errors. They have some soul searching to do. Tomorrow is another day,” East Hardy coach Marsha Hahn remarked.
Moorefield went up 7-1 in the second set as Carlson, Hinkle and Hardy garnered kills in addition to several Lady Cougars errors off serves from Rinker and Carlson and gave up the one point on an attack sailing out.
A serve went into the net, then East Hardy’s Erin Riggle landed a spike and the next serve from Whetzel went awry.
O’Neill served for the Lady Yellow Jackets and Yates made a save with Dyer launching an attack off a pass from Miller and Simmons collected the dig going to Rinker setting up Hardy for a kill, 10-3.
Dyer’s attack was returned into the net and subsequent serve was returned for a kill by Hinkle.
Hardy created a point forcing the ball through a double block and served an ace to put Moorefield up 13-4.
East Hardy responded with a spike and ace served by Riggle plus another serve was returned out for a 13-7 score.
Hardy made a block on Fleshman, then Hardy delivered a pair of aces, 16-7.
An attack by both teams went out of play prior to a point earned by McGregor for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Moorefield’s Tayla Ours and East Hardy’s Jaden Fleshman both had serves land in the net.
Attacks by Dyer and Whetzel were returned out of play and Riggle recorded a kill as the Lady Cougars brought the score down to 19-13.
Hardy’s attack hit the net, then Rinker and Miller made digs and Carlson garnered a block before Hardy notched a kill for a 21-14 Moorefield lead.

O’Neill and Dyer served into the net and McGregor hit the ball out before Hardy made a kill for a 6-3 lead.
Hardy created some service points as the Lady Cougars had errors on returns and an attack by Rinker was sent back into then net, 9-3.
East Hardy’s SierraMarie Miller had an attack met at the top of the net by Rinker for a potential block turned into a violation for reaching over the line, 9-4.
Miller garnered another point on an attack during the serve from Yates and Rebecca Whetzel’s attack was returned into the net to make it 9-6.
Moorefield responded with five consecutive points for a 14-6 advantage as Carlson and O’Neill created points on attacks and McGregor served up a point as the Lady Cougars made errors.
