On Monday, Nov. 11, the Moorefield Police Department was recognized by the American Automobile association for their daily work to keep the roads safe. The Moorefield Police Department received a Platinum Award, the highest award possible for their efforts.
During the period of August 31, 2018 to August 31, 2019, the Moorefield Police Department compiled 1,678 traffic citations, investigated 55 crashes, made 29 DUI related arrests, and worked 140 extra overtime hours in specialized patrols.
With increased patrols and strict traffic enforcement the Moorefield Police Department has[private] reduced the number of crashes occurring over the past few years. Of those reported crashes that have occurred, most were at a lower rate of speed, contributing to fewer injuries.
During the reporting period, the Moorefield Police Department issued 1,678 traffic citations. These numbers do not reflect the amount of written warnings issued during these traffic stops. The Moorefield Police Department also made 29 DUI arrests.
In addition to routine traffic patrol the Moorefield Police Department actively assists with all traffic related events occurring within Moorefield. Traffic control is managed at all major intersections during parades, park events, concerts, physical activities, and funeral processions. These events are actively worked by officers to direct and control traffic for the safety of the citizens of Moorefield.
The Moorefield Police Department is dedicated to enforcing traffic laws in the school zones. When students are attending school, the Moorefield Police Department makes all efforts to have officers present while students travel to and from school. This effort has been aided with a designated school zone speed radar sign which is placed in service every day before school and removed every day following school. The school zone designated times run from 7:30-8:30 a,m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m.while school is in session.
Officers of the Moorefield Police Department have utilized funding provided by the West Virginia Governors Highway Safety Program to work overtime patrols to make the streets of Moorefield a safer place. These patrols are worked in addition to the officer’s schedule work periods.
These specialized patrols are intended to target DUIs, speed violations, distracted driving violations, seatbelt violations, and Work Zone violations. During the reporting period, the Moorefield Police Department has dedicated 72 additional hours to speed enforcement, 48 additional hours to DUI enforcement, and 20 hours to distracted driving enforcement.[/private]
