Moorefield Cheerleaders won the inaugural WVSSAC Game Day Cheer Invitational Championship with an amazing routine entertaining the crowd this past Saturday in Parkersburg.
The Yellow Jackets impressed the judges and fans with their vocal power and enthusiasm covering many aspects cheering with an emphasis on crowd leading, fight song and band chant.
If you have been to Yellow Jacket Field or to a basketball game in the Hive, these cheerleaders show tremendous spirit getting the crowd excited about the contests and this invitational showcased what Moorefield fans already know and love as part of the tradition here.
“When I first heard the WVSSAC was going to do this kind of competition on the state level I was very excited. I knew we had to [private]compete, because it’s everything we do on the sidelines throughout our season,” Moorefield Cheer coach Lori Evans commented.
“We loved doing Game Day and had a lot of fun. I was extremely pleased at how fast and well the team adjusted to the suggested changes from the preliminaries which were how to use better sign usage, transition to skills faster, slow down pace, add cheer chatter. A lot of hard work and dedication was put into this and it paid off. I am wowed every time I watch the video of them performing in the finals. I am so proud of them and all they accomplished on that floor on Saturday.”
This was the first state title for Moorefield Cheer squad in school history, but this team has been breaking barriers all season including the fourth all-time trip to the WVSSAC State Cheer Tournament and has its first male cheerleader ever, Daniel Smith.
The Moorefield Cheer roster includes: [juniors] Alaissa Martinez-Torro, Tamiya Miller, Aexandria Wyman, Zanna Parker, [sophomores] Zeta Minor, Melody Yokum, Paige Van Meter, Grace Wratchford, Veronica Van Meter, Daniel Smith, Laken Delawder, Makenzie Keplinger, Hsu Lwin, [freshmen] Allissa Biser, Hailey Mongold, Kaelynn Loften and Makenna Wright.
