East Hardy and Moorefield Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapters are chartered as national nonprofit, family-focused, intracurricular student organizations for Family and Consumer Sciences students in grades 6 through 12. Our chapters help Hardy County youth assume their roles in society through middle school and high school Family and Consumer Sciences education in the areas of personal growth, family life, college readiness, career exploration, leadership, and community involvement.
The middle school program provides students with Career and Technical Education in the areas of Personal Development, Family Financial Management and Nutrition-Food Preparation. The high school programs offer Career and Technical certification concentrations in the Hospitality Services cluster through three majors: ProStart Culinary and Restaurant Management (EHHS); Baking and Pastry Restaurant Management (MHS); and Hospitality Management and Entrepreneurship (MHS).
Both high school programs are classified as WVDE Simulated Workplace Companies doing business as East Hardy Catering and Moorefield Hospitality Services. These student-led and -managed businesses offer client-focused catering, event planning, and hospitality services-related business interns. Both companies collaborate as Hardy UNITED–A Community Development Project. This collaboration will be opening a café, a food truck and event space in the upcoming months at the Hardy UNITED business site at the corner of Main and Jackson in Moorefield.
FCCLA and Family and Consumer Science programs extend classroom learning through chapter service projects that develop leadership and employability skills, and help young men and women learn how to plan, make decisions, and carry out and evaluate programs of action through working with other youth and adults within their school, community, and state. FCCLA offers members an opportunity to work together for common purposes for the improvement of themselves, as well as their families, careers, and communities.
The week of February 10 through 14, 2020 has been designated National FCCLA Week with the theme, “Your Story.” During National FCCLA Week, Hardy County Family and Consumer Science students will continue to lead their FCCLA chapters with the activities and values of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, to show interest in and provide support and encouragement to the students who are working to achieve knowledge and experience that will help prepare them for future responsibilities as active and concerned adult members of society.
Our chapters “rock the red” everyday out in the community, in school, and at home! We have some fantastic leaders in Hardy County. February is Career and Technical Education Month. Each year, FCCLA joins the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and the entire CTE community to celebrate CTE Month! During the month of February, ACTE encourages everyone to explore and learn the amazing accomplishments, achievements and contributions of career and technical education (CTE) professionals, students and alumni with the theme “Opportunities for Career Success.”
