WVU Extension Service announced that all residential camps for July and August 2020 have been canceled, including county and state 4-H camps. Youths throughout West Virginia will have an opportunity to participate in camp programs via online and at-home activities, including programs that provide education in nature, outdoor recreation, STEM, leadership, arts and crafts and more.
“The safety and health of our campers, families, volunteers and staff are our first priority,” Elizabeth L. Metheny, WVU Extension Agent. “We, along with our 4-H’ers, are disappointed. But, given the current state guidelines and the limited availability of sanitizing products, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel our residential camps. But, our faculty and staff have been busy working with our 4-H’ers, volunteers and teen leaders to bring programming to West Virginia’s youth in new and unique ways.”
The 2020 summer programming will be free to youths. Registration will open in the weeks ahead.
Hardy County 4-H is exploring opportunities to bring youths together this summer, in small groups and in accordance with county and state guidelines, to provide additional outreach, social and educational opportunities.
West Virginia 4-H is a program of the West Virginia University Extension Service. For more than a century, 4-H has focused on agricultural science, electricity, mechanics, entrepreneurship and natural sciences. Today, 4-H out-of-school opportunities also exist in subjects like rocketry, robotics, biofuels, renewable energy and computer science.
