Local favorites Caroline and the Evergreens help to raise awareness and entertain at the “Barktober” event held by the Humane Society

On Saturday, October 26th, the Moorefield town park was the site of the first annual Bark-tober Bash hosted by the Humane Society of Hardy County (HSHC).  The event was attended by approximately 200 on a beautiful, but sometimes windy fall day.  The crowd was entertained by many events including singing acts Caroline and the Evergreens, and Corey Beavers.

The day got started with a performance by the girls from the MDG Dance Studio.  Four different age groups from four to thirteen years old each displayed their dancing talents before an appreciative audience.  The dog costume contest featured several local canines in various dress.  Coco (Julie Miller) won first prize.  Second place went to Bubby (Tim & Kathy Huffman) and third place, Dolly Barkton (Bria & Danica Vetter).  Prizes were donated by ATC Canine, Gabby’s Groom Room, and MakerD Creations.

Cody Calp & Kate Judy of ATC Canine gave a demonstration on dog training.  The Evergreens performed several songs.  The group features Auville as lead vocalist, Joshua

Parsons on lead guitar, Mark Stickley playing rhythm guitar, bass guitar player Greg Ours, and D.J. Bosley on drums.  Liam Nesselrodt received a $25 gift card donated by El Rancho Mexican restaurant for finishing first in the one mile walk.

HSHC appreciates the donations of items from several businesses and individuals that were raffled off.  Those include Central Tie and Lumber, Dewalt drill; Lou Butler and Cathy Stropoli, Blackstone grill; Gib Moyers, handmade West Virginia clock; Randy George and Julie Barb, handmade lanterns; MakerD Creations, engraved flask and coaster; Holly Landes  a quilted picture, copper bird ornament, copper horse rider ornament, airbrush painting, soap basket and tin, and quilted & copper ornaments; Moorefield Collision, headlight restoration; fall wreath Julia and Angel Hartman; Simple Blessings, baked goods;  Taylor Currence, a l’bri basket; Chelsi Adkins, Mary Kay basket; Joanne Perkins.

Last but not least, is the recognition of Sarah & David Imoden for a great job handling emcee duties.
