November 25, November 29, 2024

With the holiday season upon us I felt it was important to take a minute to be thankful. Hardy County Committee on Aging has been in this area for 51 years. In that time this organization has seen a lot of ups and downs but has always stayed true to ensure that all senior citizens have what they need to remain as independent as possible. Whether it is through In–Home services, SHIP counseling, or our nutrition program, we continue to strive to be there for all elderly people who need a hand. We should be thankful for everything and everyone we have in our lives. Each day is a blessing that should never be taken for granted. I challenge everyone to take the time we have left this year and do one act of kindness. “A true selfless act always sparks another” is a quote from Klaus, a movie on Netflix, and that line has stayed with me ever since I first heard it. We should be grateful for everything we have and help those of us who are struggling, especially at this time of year.

Hardy County Committee on Aging would like to thank everyone who donated to the Senior Center this year. No donation is ever too small. Whether it was food, monetary donations, medical equipment, medical supplies, or even just to see how to help. We thank every single one of you. It is because of people like you that helps us go on and help everyone we can. I hope that everyone has a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season.

Thankful for what I have

This year has not been the best

But at least I am still here

Yes, we did say goodbye to some

And they will never be forgotten

For I will always carry them in my heart

I am thankful for all that I have learned this year

And how much we all have grown

For as long as I have family and friends

That itself is worth more

Then any amount of money

For this I am thankful for everything I have

Sponsorship Programs

We do not have a sponsor for a Free Meal Friday for December yet. If you would like to sponsor a Free Meal Friday for December, please contact Ceneth Bierkamp at 304-530-2256 option 1 for more information.

“Free Meal Friday” will cover the cost of the meal for one day for those who dine in at the center, pick up a meal, and our homebound participants. The cost for “Free Meal Friday is $1,300.00. Seniors will be informed on who is paying for the cost of the meal on that day and we welcome a representative of the business to come and eat on that day and talk with the seniors.

“Sponsor a Senior” will cover an elderly participant’s meal for one month. The cost for this sponsorship is $200.00. The senior that is picked will receive a card saying that their meals are covered for the month and with the permission of the sponsor we will inform them of who made this possible.

Activities

We have decided to try a Senior Coloring Contest this December. All seniors who are eligible for meals are welcome to participate. Stop by the center to pick up the coloring page. The contest will start on December 2nd and will end on December 10th at 4:00 pm. There will be a prize for the best picture. If you have any questions, please contact Ceneth Bierkamp at 304-530-2256 option 1.

The center has a puzzle table, playing cards, dominoes, coloring, and checkers that are available daily.

Bingo is played on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. If you wish to participate in the bingo game, we ask that you come and eat lunch at the center the day of the activity.

Craft time is offered once a month. The day varies from month to month due to availability. We usually try to announce it on our Facebook page. If you wish to participate in the craft, we ask that you come and eat lunch at the center the day of the activity.

We have a Free Little Library in the front foyer for anyone who wishes to check out our book selection. We try to switch out books every month. Take a book, leave a book, love a book, keep a book.
