The Hardy County Community Foundation recently awarded 8 grants totaling nearly $17,211 to all four Moorefield schools from the Hardy County Founding Fund, the Foundation’s first fund.
Established by Mrs. Ruth Cook Heishman when she created her will in 2003, this donor-advised fund primarily supports the schools in East Hardy County, but in recent years the fund advisors have also recommended additional grants to support the Moorefield Schools and the two public libraries.
Grant recipients this fall include:
Moorefield Elementary School
- $1,500 for the annual recertification of their therapy dog, Shadow
- $510.65 to purchase and install classroom window safety and privacy curtains
Moorefield High School
- $2,000 to purchase safety railings for concert risers
Moorefield Intermediate School
- $1,795 to purchase a school-wide Generation Genius subscription
- $5,000 to purchase Orff music instruments and instrument tables
- $2,695 for a 3rd grade field trip to the Virginia Safari Park
- $2,210 for a 5th grade field trip to the National Air & Space Museum
Moorefield Middle School
- $1,500 for the school’s annual Fall Festival
Earlier this year, grants totaling $24,000 were awarded to East Hardy Schools and an additional $7,000 was awarded to Moorefield Schools.
