George Robert Shockey, age 78, of Old Fields, WV, passed away Sunday evening, November 17, 2024, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. Born on November 1, 1946, in Old Fields, WV, he was a son of the late George Edward Shockey and Louise Katherine McDonald Shockey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Goldy Bolton, Dottie Vandevander, Ray Shockey, Alvin Shockey and Paul Shockey.
George was known for his love of the great outdoors, particularly his passion for hunting and fishing. With a love for country music and trying his luck with scratch-off tickets from the lottery, he also had a knack for bowling strikes at the local alley. George embraced life with a spirited vigor that endeared him to all who knew him. He shared a special bond with his family, especially his grandsons, with whom he enjoyed spending quality time.
Surviving is his wife Maude Elizabeth “Sis” Kuykendall Shockey; a son, Robert (Kelli) Shockey of Aspers, PA; a daughter, Peggy (Robert) Bergey of Biglerville, PA; grandchildren, Renee (Andy) Bergey-Gruber, Matthew Shockey & Logan Shockey; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Monica & Freya; brothers, Roger Shockey of Old Fields, WV and Wayne (Jean) Shockey of Old Fields, WV and sisters, Mary Jane (Junior) Bolton of Brandywine, WV and Betty (Garland) May of Sugar Grove, WV.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Fraley Funeral home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Dan Howard officiant. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, Old Fields, WV. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM.
