Nancy Elizabeth Love, 87, of Masontown, WV, formerly of Moorefield, WV, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at her home on the farm. She was born in Morgantown, WV, on December 25, 1937, a daughter of the late Raymond Cecil Love and Edith Howell Love. At an early age, Nancy discovered horses and her love for them grew. She rode her Saddlebred pony and Saddlebred horse on every street in Moorefield and the surrounding areas. The longest ride Nancy had was fifteen miles in one day. Nancy showed both her pony and horse at the Tri-County Fair in Petersburg, WV, each year while in high school. She won the Five-Gaited Championship in her last year of showing. Nancy never saw a high school football game; she preferred to go home and ride her horse. Nancy won the title of Miss Moorefield during her freshman year of high school. She was a 1955 graduate of Moorefield High School. She then attended West Virginia University; being a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and graduated with a diploma in secondary education. Nancy later received a master’s in counseling and guidance. Nancy was employed as a teacher and counselor in Monongalia County for twenty-seven years. She enjoyed her students and kept in touch with many of them. In 2000 Nancy purchased nineteen acres just outside of Masontown, WV. It was a big, beautiful hayfield with nothing occupying it and she was determined to make something of it. Nancy laid out the fields, fencing, designed the barn, found a house plan, and began the process of fulfilling her dreams. With the sale of her home in Morgantown, which she did herself, her home on the farm was completed in 2004. This established Luv-A-Steed Farm. Nancy studied bloodlines of American Saddlebred horses all her life and her goal was to try and preserve the very old bloodline of one of the greats, “Stonewall King”. All the Saddlebred horses she had traced on the top and bottom to this horse. At the farm, Nancy was very hands-on. She fixed fences, mowed fields, bred horses, halter broke colts, and would do anything that needed done. At the age of 85, Nancy was at the barn every day at 8:30 am doing farm chores such as cleaning stalls, feeding, and checking on horses. Nancy visited many foreign countries and went on several cruises. Her favorite place was being at horse sales, or the World Championship show in Kentucky. Nancy was a life-time member of the American Saddlebred Horse Association. Nancy is survived by two cousins and many good friends. In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Walker Love of Love Memorial Clinic of Moorefield, WV. Compassionate and professional cremation services will be provided by the Field Funeral Home of Masontown, WV. To honor Nancy’s wishes, there will be no public services.
