Gail Sherman, 85, of Charles Town, WV passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 in Charles Town, WV.

Born April 22, 1939 in Moorefield, WV, she was the daughter of the late Harold Barr and Lola Riggleman Barr Oyhus.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert Sherman and her brother, Dwane Barr of Moorefield, WV.

Gail was a graduate of Moorefield High School, Class of 1957 and earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Shepherd College. She continued on to earn her Master’s Degree from West Virginia University. She served her first year teaching school in Hardy County, WV and continued in Jefferson County schools, where she was an instructional specialist, retiring June 30, 2004.

Gail made a difference in her community and citizens. She was a dedicated member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Eta Chapter and a member of Charles Town Chapter No. 128, Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, Travis Clay Sherman and wife, Thersa of Purcellville, VA and Andrew Lee Sherman and wife, Karen of Bunker Hill, WV, two grandchildren, Jenna and Jacob, one sister, Shelvy Hartman and husband, Richard of Moorefield, WV and many other family and friends. 

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 W. North Street, Charles Town, WV with Pastor Duane Jensen officiating. Interment will follow in Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV. 

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 5-7 pm and one hour prior to the service on Friday. 

Charles Town Chapter No. 128 OES will conduct an Eastern Star Memorial service at 5:00 pm on Thursday.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
