Alice Ann Shingleton, born on July 22, 1948, in Old Fields, WV, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, in Winchester, VA. She was a cherished member of her community and a beloved matriarch to her family.

Alice was known for her unwavering devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy rich with love and laughter, having touched countless lives with her kindness and vibrant spirit. Alice’s family was the cornerstone of her existence; she reveled in spending time making memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Her children, Jeremy (Minnie) Shingleton, Christie (David) Fout, and Tracy (Andrew) Kesner, all of Old Fields, WV, carry on her legacy. She was a proud grandmother to Brittany Shingleton, Samantha Mongold, Brandon Fout, Cohan Kesner, Evan Kesner, Sheena Whetzel, Tyson Saville, and Tyler Saville, and a loving great-grandmother to Kingslee, Bryson, Charlie, Maiya, Peighton, Zaiden, Haivyn, Brooklyn, Reagan, and Cambrie. Alice is also survived by her brother, Boyd Lee Shockey of Brandywine, WV, and a special niece, Shannon Shockey Adkins of Brandywine, WV, along with several other nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Charles Robert “John” Shingleton in February 2013, and she also mourned the loss of her parents, Seymour Welton Shockey and Nellie May (Shoemaker) Shockey. Along with them, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Whetzel; and seven brothers, Roy, Raymond, Dewey, Jerry, Dan, Benjamin, and Carl Shockey.

Known for her love of playing pool, darts, horseshoes, and cornhole, Alice’s joy extended to attending to her flowers, canning, and actively participating in her Church community. Many residents of Hardy County will fondly remember her warm smile and welcoming presence at Old Fields Store, where she dedicated several years of service.

A funeral service to honor Alice’s life will be held at Fraley Funeral Chapel in Moorefield, WV, on March 27, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Dan Howard officiating. Interment to follow in the Bethel Cemetery in Old Fields, WV. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday.

Alice Ann Shingleton will be remembered for her generous heart and the many ways she enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. To share your condolences, fond memories, or photos that honor Alice’s spirit, we invite you to visit her Tribute Wall at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com.
