Moorefield Softball is moving up to the Class AA division and the Yellow Jackets have a plethora of talent buzzing to make a deep flight in the playoffs.

Bridget Sions embarks on her sixth season at the helm for the Yellow Jackets and looks for improvement daily.

The Yellow Jackets finished last season with a record of 18-10 and lost in the sectional championship to Petersburg.

Moorefield Softball will be guided by seniors Hannah Snyder (infielder), Seanna Heavner (infielder) and Carlee Haines (infielder).

Moorefield junior class consists of CiCi Kump (outfielder/pitcher), Raleigh Kuykendall (pitcher) and Sara Baldwin (infielder).

The Yellow Jackets sophomores are Addison Hunt, Aryana Hinz (pitcher), Aubrey Kidwell (outfielder), Gracie Simmons (catcher/pitcher), Annie Barr (pitcher/outfielder), Brenna See (outfielder/catcher), Adyson Ault (infielder) and Caroline Auville (outfielder).

Moorefield freshmen are: Kalithia Keplinger (pitcher), Kerigan Bergdall (infielder), Emmy Crites (pitcher), Makayla Myers (pitcher) Peyton Miller (outfielder) and Violet Hearn (infielder).

Kump and Simmons return as members of the All-Potomac Valley Conference second team.

Moorefield Softball started this Eason against Washington, then hosted Frankfort and went to Spring Mills.

The Yellow Jackets visited Strasburg (VA) yesterday and host Petersburg tomorrow, then travel to Philip Barbour on Saturday.

Moorefield will be playing Doddridge County, Pendleton County, Jefferson, John Marshall, Mountain Ridge (MD), Tucker County, Keyser, Southern Garrett (MD) and Berkeley Springs this season.

The home finale is scheduled for April 24 against Keyser.

Moorefield Softball will host its annual Bub Riggleman Memorial Tournament on April 11-12 with the following teams receiving invitations: Spring Mills, Philip Barbour, Tucker County, Pendleton County, North Marion, Hampshire, Petersburg, Greenbrier West, Williamsport (MD), Musselman, Keyser, Hedgesville, and Lewis County.

The Yellow Jackets will have two special games this season: Cancer Awareness Night on April 9 and Military Appreciation Night on April 23.

Moorefield Softball has shown consistency in the circle and at the plate early in the season.

“This is my sixth year as head coach, and my main goal for the season is for us to improve every day, both as a team and as individuals. The senior leadership has been outstanding, with the seniors working hard to help and teach the underclassmen. Our pitchers are Annie Barr, Raleigh Kuykendall, Aryana Hinz, CiCi Kump, Grace Simmons, Emmy Crites, McKayla Myers, and Liddy Keplinger, while the catchers are Grace Simmons and Brenna See. Infielders include Carlee Haines, Kerigan Bergdall, Seanna Heavner, and Hannah Snyder, and our outfielders will rotate between CiCi Kump, Brenna See, Aubrey Kidwell, and Annie Barr depending on who is pitching. This year, we’re excited to play against Washington and Doddridge high schools again, while also adding Spring Mills and Philip Barbour to our schedule. We’ll also face Jefferson and John Marshall at the Hedgesville Tournament. We’ve planned two special games: a Cancer Awareness Game on April 9th, sponsored by EA Hawse, and a Military Appreciation Game on April 23rd, sponsored by Pilgrims Prepared Plant. Additionally, the Bub Riggleman Tournament will take place on April 11th and 12th, with 14 teams participating: Moorefield, Spring Mills, Philip Barbour, Tucker, Pendleton, North Marion, Hampshire, Petersburg, Greenbrier West, Williamsport, Musselman, Keyser, Hedgesville, and Lewis County. As a coach, I focus on recognizing the unique strengths and backgrounds of each player, emphasizing effort, attitude, and progress over outcomes. I strive to create a supportive, respectful environment where players can grow, both in their skills and as individuals. I aim to foster a love for the game while promoting life skills like leadership, accountability, and time management. Above all, I want my players to develop a passion for the sport, improving both their physical abilities and their character,” Moorefield Softball coach Bridget Sions commented.
