Moorefield Track and Field has a plethora of senior leadership to guide the team to the state meet in Charleston.

The Yellow Jackets will be coached by veteran Linda Wright (boys) and first year coach Seth Wilson (girls).

Moorefield Boys Track seniors are: Ethan Eye (thrower), Trace Pope (thrower), Diego Taylor (sprinter), William Wojtowicz (sprinter, mid-distance), Camden Laughlin (jumper, sprinter), Caden Fertig (sprinter), Jeshua Mazariego (sprinter, hurdles), Riley Pillus (sprinter, hurdler), Gary Foster (posthumously).

“I’m very excited. This is my senior season, obviously. I am excited to hopefully go to state and preferably medal. Our goals are to set a couple new school records and take as many people to state as possible. [New track]. It is a nice track and I wish we could run spikes on it. There were some delays getting the asphalt down, but it is in much better shape than the old track we had,” Moorefield Boys Track senior William Wojtowicz noted.

“I am very excited and our goal is to go to states and get more medals and have an overall good season. [New track] It is pretty special. It is good to know they care and they are trying,” Moorefield Boys Track senior Diego Taylor commented.

Moorefield Girls Track seniors are: Molly Molen (sprinter), Silmary Ramos-Ortiz (sprinter), LaTanya Redman (sprinter) amd Sydney Rumer (sprinter).

“I am super excited. I wasn’t going to run track this year in order to make money for college, then thought it is my senior year and this will be the last time I will be able to run with my friends and experience this. The thing I am most excited about is going to state, because I have been there the past three years and hope to go all four years of my high school career. [New track] It is absolutely amazing to see everybody come together to show support, every little bit counts. It is so nice for them to make this track for our middle school and high school track teams,” Moorefield Girls Track senior Sydney Rumer said.

The Yellow Jackets junior class are: Girls — Elroe Baye, Veronica Carr (thrower), LeeAnne Coon (sprinter), Keria Cornett, Omayeris Ortiz-Martinez (sprinter), Alexis Propst, Jaydien Sager (hurdler), Elizabeth Williams (distance); Boys — Kevin Aleman (thrower), Marcus Cremann (thrower), Javier Elias Escobar (Sprinter, jumper), Josiah Howard (sprinter, mid-distance), Matthew McDonald (sprinter, mid-distance), Pedro Mucu Mo ((sprinter, jumper), Jhon Paul (hurdler, sprinter), Carter Sherman (hurdler).

Moorefield Track sophomore class includes: Boys — Brayden Sackett-Williams (mid-distance, jumper), Thomas Parisi (thrower), Jordan Fields (sprinter), Chris Baldwin (thrower), Chernet Ansani (mid-distance, hurdler), Javier Acosta (hurdler, mid-distance); Girls — Madelyn Baker, Sydney Lancaster (hurdler), Brylee Reel (thrower), Brooklyn Saville, Jocelyn Wagner (sprinter, hurdler), Caitlin Walters.

Moorefield Track freshmen are: Girls — Schanica Barthelemy, Chloe Leroux, Kailynn Oenkov, Parvartee Snyder, Elizabeth Valentin-Rey; Boys — Ronan Straight (thrower), Edgar Cambero (distance, mid-distance), Levi Davis (thrower) and Anthony Jackson (thrower).

“We have 27 people on the boys track team including nine who are new to our program. Our nine seniors have been with the program for the past four years. They bring excellent leadership for the younger members. I can give them my outline for practice with the relief of knowing that they will help to get through all of the activities. They want to go to state and win more medals. We are still working on events. Because of the late start, we will not have everyone eligible for the first few track meets. Once we have everyone, I feel that we will do what we can to succeed,” Moorefield Boys Track coach Linda Wright stated.

“We have Larry Foster back as a Team Support Coach. He is helping the kids out by timing them and encouraging them to do their best no matter what event they are in. I know that the boys are still doing this for Gary, so having Larry with us keeps his memory alive. It’s a real shame that we don’t have the track finished this year, but it will be well worth the wait once it gets finished. Keyser has offered one of their track meets for us to use for our senior night.”

Moorefield Athletic Boosters, the community and our Mountain State leadership helped to secure funds for a new track for the Yellow Jackets, but it won’t be ready for this track season.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to coach these young athletes. As a team, our main goal is to get better everyday. It may not be a ‘major’ goal, but striving to improve everyday will eventually lead to the outcomes that the kids want. That outcome being competing in Charleston for the state meet,” Moorefield Girls Track coach Seth Wilson remarked.

Moorefield’s top returning state competitors are: #2 Shot Put – Trace Pope, #6 200 – Diego Taylor, #5 110 High Hurdles – Carter Sherman, #7 Discus – Ethan Eye and #4 100 – LaTanya Redman.

Moorefield’s Addison Wilson had finished as a bronze medalist high jumper at the state meet last season.

Moorefield Boys shuttle hurdles team earned a state silver medal last year and return Riley Pillus and Carter Sherman.

Moorefield Boys 4×200 relay took 10th place at the state meet and return all four runners: Mazariego, Pillus, Taylor and McDonald.

Moorefield Girls shuttle hurdles was 10th place at the state meet and return all members: Wagner, Lancaster, Sager and Redman.

Moorefield Girls 4×200 relay team took 10th pace at the state meet and return all competitors: Redman, Molen, Rumer and Wagner.

Moorefield Girls 4×100 relay team took 9th place at the state meet and bring back all four runners: Sager, Molen, Redman and Rumer.

The Yellow Jackets are putting the pieces together to take another journey to the state meet in Charleston.

Moorefield Track has no home meets this season and started the year at Hampshire, then visited Fort Hill (MD) yesterday and travel to Doddridge County on Friday.

The Yellow Jackets will compete at East Hardy twice – April 3 and 8.

Moorefield visits Keyser five times – April 1, 15, 24, 29 and May 10.

The regional track meet is held at Doddridge County.
