Harold Wayne Fitzwater, age 87 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Sunday morning, February 16, 2025, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. Born on April 6, 1937, in Moorefield, he was a son of the late Oscar & Ethel May Clayton Fitzwater. His wife, Judith Ann Bean Fitzwater preceded him in death in August 2018. The last member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Elizabeth Fitzwater, Pauline Cain, Dorothy Ellenger, Susie McCoy, Edna Alsip; and brothers, Charlie Fitzwater, John Fitzwater and Harry Fitzwater.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran and dedicated Superintendent of the Valley View Golf Club for over 15 years, Harold left a lasting imprint on those who knew him. He adored the outdoors, whether it was hunting, perfecting his golf swing, or nurturing his impressive garden and fruit trees—even mowing his yard brought him joy!
Surviving is his significant other, Paula Sue Mowery; a son, Richard Wayne “Rick” Fitzwater of Moorefield, WV; three grandchildren, Casey Wayne Fitzwater, Chelsea Elizabeth Price Henry and Cody Jacob Fitzwater; a great-granddaughter, Karmi P. Henry and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Dan Sterns officiant and Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy. Friends and family will be welcomed to share in this heartfelt tribute from 1:00 PM until the service begins.
