Moorefield Tennis strings and strums a tune putting the Vikings to sleep

Moorefield Boys Tennis No. 4 William Keplinger launched a serve against Petersburg

Moorefield Tennis strummed the right tune to lull the Vikings to sleep as senior William Keplinger played an air banjo song with his racquet.

The Yellow Jackets Boys Tennis squad shutout Petersburg 7-nil, while the Moorefield Girls collected a 5-2 victory to the delight of the home crowd humming to the creative banjo tune.

Moorefield Boys Doubles teams set the pace to commence the matches as No 1 duo of Lian Mung and Levi Malcolm defeated Petersburg 8-4, then No. 2 Doubles partners Hunter Mongold and William Keplinger took a forfeit and No. 3 doubles Hayes Sherman and Stewart Monroe finished out the sweep 8-0.

Sherman had a huge smile as Monroe kept the vibes cool with sunglasses.

Moorefield Boys No. 1 seed Lian Mung blanked Petersburg’s Trenton Smoot 8-0 with strong serves and coverage of the court with precision.

Moorefield Boys No. 2 seed Levi Malcolm ousted Petersburg’s Jesse Ockerman 8-1 with leaping returns along the back line and accurate serves.

Moorefield Boys No. 3 seed Hunter Mongold shutout the Vikings’ Ben Kuhn 8-0 with swift moves around the court and good lobs.

Moorefield Boys No. 4 seed William Keplinger and local banjo bluegrass star fine tuned the serves for an 8-0 win over Petersburg’s Sam Yeager.

Moorefield Girls No. 1 Doubles partners Courtlynn Ault and Bethany Coon were singing the right tune with an 8-1 win over Petersburg’s Ava Gray and Ireland Gray.

Ault stuck her tongue out at the net creating some laughter from the competition and fans.

Coon almost did the same thing, but quickly got back into concentrating for the serve.

Ault and Coon showed versatility making the return volleys.

Moorefield Girls No. 2 Doubles Emily Vinoski and Grace Tayman secured an 8-4 win over Petersburg’s Callie Sites and Angela Willis.

Vinoski and Tayman communicated well and kept a solid rotation.

Leah Davis and Sakura Cameron provided the Yellow Jackets with the No. 3 Doubles win 8-1 over the Vikings’ Marley Evans and Jesslyn Berg.

Davis and Cameron made good strides to reach the hits and had accurate serves.

Moorefield Girls No. 1 Singles Courtlynn Ault earned an 8-2 victory to keep the momentum going.

The Vikings No. 2 Singles Ava Gray countered with an 8-6 edge over Moorefield’s Gracie Combs as both athletes battled for every point.

Moorefield Girls No. 3 Singles Bethany Coon coasted to an 8-1 win over Petersburg’s Callie Sites.

Petersburg Girls No. 4 Singles Angela Willis eked out a 9-7 win over Moorefield’s Emily Vinoski in an intense match.

Moorefield Boys Tennis continued its undefeated season with a 7-0 shutout over Keyser: Mung 8-0, Malcolm 8-1, Mongold 8-3 Keplinger 8-2, Mung/Malcolm 8-1, Mongold/Keplinger 8-2 and Sherman/Monroe 8-1.

Moorefield Girls Tennis lost to the Golden Tornado 5-2.

Moorefield’s Bethany Coon picked up an 8-6 win in third seed singles and Ault and Coon combined for the No.1 seed doubles 8-6 win.

Ault lost 8-6, Combs lost 8-4 and Vinoski lost 8-1 in singles competition against Keyser.

Vinoski/Tayman lost 8-2 and Davis/Coleman lost 8-6 for the Yellow Jackets in doubles play.

Moorefield Girls Tennis bounced back with a sweep over Parkersburg Catholic with wins in singles competition by Ault (8-3), Combs (8-6) and Coon (8-3) and doubles action had Ault and Coon winning 8-3.
