Moorefield’s Oliver Crites aims a strike against the Vikings in Petersburg last week.

The Vikings rallied from a 2-1 deficit scoring 11 unanswered runs with the help of eight blunders and ten walks to stride past the Yellow Jackets 12-2 in Petersburg.

Petersburg starting pitcher Peyton Metheny went 3.2 innings with five strikeouts and allowed five hits, followed by Peyton Tingler tossing seven strikeout and allowing one hit to finish the game.

Moorefield’s Guyan Kahangirwe got on first base, then advanced on a pickoff error before being stranded.

Metheny jumped aboard for the Vikings against Moorefield pitcher Trevor Baldwin, advanced on an error and stole third base before coming home on a wild pitch, 1-0.

The Yellow Jackets really started buzzing in the fourth inning as Oliver Cortes, Trevor Baldwin and Ben Watts hit consecutive singles to load the bases.

Moorefield’s Kail Greenwalt smacked a two-run producing error at second base to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 edge.

Blake Snyder singled to third base with Watts being tagged out at third base and the runners were stranded on a strikeout.

Kail Greenwalt took the mound for the Yellow Jackets in the bottom of the fourth inning and allowed singles by Mauzy, Wolford and McDonald with the latter having an error during the play to plate Mauzy to tie the game at 2-all.

Moorefield’s pitching rotation also included Oliver Crites, Cyrus Kump and Zeke Eye.

The Vikings capitalized on seven walks in the fifth inning and an error to rip the game open 9-2, then added three more runs in the sixth inning to complete the mercy rule 12-2 finish.

The Vikings put the icing on the cake for the mercy rule win with a slide home against Moorefield as catcher Blake Snyder waited for the ball.
