Moorefield will hold its municipal General Election on June 10, 2025. Among those on the ballot are six candidates vying for two Town Council seats. This is the second in a series of conversations with all six candidates, each of whom was given the same set of questions, and the same deadline in which to respond. Candidates were asked to keep their responses to 3-5 sentences. Today we talk with Erica Davy. Responses have not been edited.
Moorefield Examiner (ME): Please provide a brief personal statement about your candidacy, priorities and vision for the Town of Moorefield.
Erica Davy: As a proud resident of Moorefield, I am honored to offer my candidacy for public office, driven by a deep commitment to our community’s growth, prosperity and well-being. My priorities center around support responsible economic development, preserving our small-town charm and ensuring that every resident’s voice is heard. My vision is a thriving Moorefield – one that honors its heritage while embracing opportunities for the future.
ME: What initiative, program, project, or issue (infrastructure, public safety/services, economic development, etc.) would you spearhead if elected?
Davy: If elected, I would spearhead a comprehensive downtown revitalization initiative to support economic development, attract small businesses, and create a more vibrant community space for residents and visitors alike.
ME: Given recent controversies involving the Moorefield Police Department, how would you work to enhance transparency and accountability in town government and strengthen public trust in the Council and local law enforcement?
Davy: Recent controversies involving the Moorefield Police Department have understandably shaken the public’s confidence, and I believe restoring that trust must be a top priority. If elected, I will advocate for special town hall meetings, where residents can engage directly with law enforcement and the council.
ME: What do you believe is the most pressing issue facing Moorefield and its residents and how do you plan to address it if elected?
Davy: I believe one of the most pressing issues in Moorefield is the inability to support growth within the community. Resources and funding are lacking. If elected, I would help in overcoming these obstacles for our current and future residents.
ME: The Council is just finishing/just finished its budgeting for FY 2025/26. How would you prioritize budgeting and balancing public safety needs with other municipal responsibilities such as cultural and recreational activities; public works and infrastructure; and economic development?
Davy: Public safety must remain a top priority. This includes adequate funding for training, equipment, and personnel, as well as community engagement programs to build trust. Additionally, the importance of public works and infrastructure cannot be overlooked as it directly impacts on our resident’s quality of life. Maintenance and upkeep of these facilities are a close second. Economic development is also an important contributor, and I would advocate smart incentives to attract businesses that will provide sustainable employment for our residents. Cultural and recreational, may seem secondary, if elected, I will work to ensure they receive consistent funding and support.
