Mr. Scott George Edgerton, age 83, of Mathias, WV, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at home on the morning of April 14, 2025. Scott is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pandora Edgerton, nee Melvin, and his son, Nathan Edgerton. He was preceded in death by his brother, David E. Edgerton.

Scott was born on February 25, 1942, in Saratoga Springs, New York. He was the son of George W. Edgerton and Jean. H. Edgerton, nee Cowan. He lived in many places throughout his youth, including Asheville, North Carolina, where his lifelong love of UNC basketball began, and Princeton, New Jersey, where he graduated high school. He later earned an associate’s degree from nearby Rider University.

He was an avid collector of stamps and a voracious reader, endlessly curious about history, geography, and politics. He held a variety of jobs throughout his life, including as a sports broadcaster on local radio, a member of a race car pit crew, a medical bookkeeper in the Army (stationed in Iran), a bank teller, a worker in a gunpowder factory, a groundskeeper, a builder of miniature houses, an emu farmer, and a retail worker. He was a lifelong recycler and hated to see things go to waste, which made his final job his dream job: helping Wal-Mart donate surplus or unsellable items to charity.

After retiring in 2010, he enjoyed organizing his stamp collection and connecting with other collectors, eventually finding a stamp club in Fishersville, Virginia and later becoming its president.

His family is grateful beyond words to our neighbors and friends from church who helped him throughout his final years, driving him to treatments at WVU and Winchester Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

All arrangements are handled by McKee Funeral Home, Baker, WV.
