The Golden Tornado dominated the Keyser Track Meet securing the gold medal in boys and girls competition including setting a school record in boys pole vault, while the Moorefield Boys finished with the silver medal and Yellow Jackets Girls took the bronze medal during a mostly clear day before a torrential downpour ended the meet prematurely after the 200 meter run.
The Yellow Jackets swept the sprinting events gold medals for the boys and girls teams in the 100, 200 and 400 meter races.
Keyser Boys Track won the top team honors with 202 points, followed by Moorefield with 62 points, Union with 30 points and Petersburg with two points.
Keyser Girls Track claimed first place with 154 points, followed by Paw Paw with 44 points, Moorefield with 37 points, Petersburg with 34 points and Union with 11 points.
Keyser Boys Track senior Tanner Detrick set a school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 13 feet.
Moorefield Track swept the sprint events in Keyser.
Moorefield Girls Track freshman Parvatee Snyder won the gold medal in the 100 meter dash (13.30), 200 meter dash (26.70) and 400 meter run (1:03.60).
Moorefield Boys Track senior Caden Fertig garnered the gold medal in the 100 meter dash (12.06) and 200 meter dash (24.58).
Moorefield Boys Track junior Matthew McDonald collected the gold medal in the 400 meter run (54.37).
Moorefield senior Trace Pope returned from injury and posted a bronze medal finish for the shot put (36’9”).
Moorefield Track members enjoyed wearing leis during the meet.
The Yellow Jackets showed good promise for the upcoming Potomac Valley Conference Track Championships at Frankfort this week.
