Howard Leonard Jeffers, age 71, of Moorefield, WV, will be remembered as a devoted husband, cherished friend, and compassionate caregiver who touched the lives of many. He peacefully passed away on Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, WV. Born on April 9, 1954, in Indianapolis, IN, Howard was the beloved son of the late Chester Howard Jeffers and Juanita Pearl Oliver Jeffers. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother and sister.

A proud U.S. Marine veteran, Howard was dedicated to serving others. He earned his degree from Ohio’s University of Rio Grande, Holzer School of Nursing, and began his career in healthcare at Point Pleasant Hospital before moving on to Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg, WV. In 1984, he joined Grant Memorial Hospital’s nursing department, where he spent 20 fulfilling years, later contributing his expertise to Pulmonary Associates.

Howard’s passions extended beyond his professional life. An avid outdoorsman, he relished the joys of hunting, fishing, and learning to flying. He enjoyed woodworking, horseback riding, and above all, he cherished his role as a lay Pastor at Moorefield Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he taught the Bible with enthusiasm and compassion.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Jane Murnahan Jeffers; his brother, Paul (Donna) Jeffers of Petersburg, WV; his sisters, Frances (Willard) Eldridge and Kristeen (George) Schwartz of Point Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, beginning at 6:00 PM at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, located at 107 Washington Street. Pastor Eddie Reyes will officiate this special gathering. Friends and family are invited to come and share their memories, beginning with visitation at 5:00 PM until the time of service.
