We are a week into May, WVU is in the middle of their finals, and graduation is just over a week away. As the academic calendar finishes up, that means WVU’s athletic calendar is getting close to wrapping up as well.

The baseball team continues to lead the Big 12, with a 16-3 conference record. They swept UCF to end April with a 12-0 record in the conference, after four straight series sweeps. To give you an idea of how impressive that is, WVU has had six seasons with 12 or less conferences wins for the whole year.

They lost a midweek game in Charleston to Marshall, which caused them to fall out of the top 15 of the RPI, but they were still in the top 20. They are still strong contenders to host a region in the NCAA tournament, but they have less margin for error. They had Texas Tech last weekend, and played at Pitt last night. It would be extremely helpful to win all of their remaining series, as well as the Pitt game, which is their last nonconference one. The last two Big 12 series are at Kansas State, and then they host the current second place team, Kansas, in what figures to be a huge series, with big postseason implications.

The golf team isn’t quite done yet. While the team did not make it to the NCAA Regionals, Kaleb Wilson has qualified as an individual. He is just the second Mountaineer to do so (the first was current Korn Ferry tour player Mark Goetz in 2021). He will compete in Amherst, Virginia regional at Poplar Grove Golf Course May 12-14.

Finally, track & field is wrapping up their regular season by hosting a Last Chance qualifying meet this weekend. They head to Lawrence, Kansas for Big 12 Championships next week.
