Charles Alston Funkhouser, 94, of Baker, WV, died at his home on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Charles, the son of the late Leona C. Combs Funkhouser, was born on September 3, 1930, in Baker, WV. Charles, a decorated veteran of the United States Air Force, served as a pilot during the Korean War. Charles married the love of his life, Frankie J. Tacy Funkhouser, on October 17, 1953. In 1958, Charles established Rolling Hills Farms, which he continued to grow with the help of his two sons. He acted as the owner and president of RF Manufacturing Corporation from 1972 until his passing. Charles was a charter member of the Baker Ruritan Club, a member of the Wardensville Lions Club, the New Dale Church of the Brethren, the Farm Bureau, and the Hardy County Planning Commission. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, working, watching old Western movies, and, in his later years, patrolling the farm in his Jeep Cherokee.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Rodney A. and Lisa M. Funkhouser of Baker, WV; a sister, Betty Hefner of Moorefield, WV; and two grandchildren, Aden S. & Kiley B. Funkhouser.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Allen Funkhouser; a wife, Frankie Funkhouser; and a son, Charles “Chuck” Funkhouser Jr.
A service was held at the New Dale Church of the Brethren on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 2:30 P.M. Pastors Craig Good and Dan Sterns will officiate the service. The United States Air Force will accord military honors at the New Dale Cemetery.
