Moorefield High School senior Korbin Keplinger has signed to play women’s basketball at WVU Potomac State College in Keyser.
Keplinger was a top inside presence for the Yellow Jackets and will look to provide dynamic skills for the Catamounts program.
WVU Potomac State College was founded in 1901 as the Keyser Preparatory Branch of the West Virginia University
WVU Potomac State College competes in the NJCAA Region 20 Division II within the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference under coach Larry Kruk entering his seventh season at the helm with over 60 career wins and a 15-11 record last year.
Keplinger plans to study nursing at WVU Potomac State College and holds a 3.8 GPA at Moorefield High School.
“I’m excited, but I didn’t really plan on going at the beginning of the year. Then I decided I should go and I would have fun doing it. It is close and it is a small school, so you get to know everyone there and can excel. When I was talking to Coach Larry, he said they do very well in their grades. I was worried about my grades with my time management, but he said they have the highest GPA there for the school. I was excited about that,” Future WVU Potomac Sate College Women’s Basketball Catamount Korbin Keplinger stated.
“My advice would be to enjoy it while you have it and don’t take it for granted. Have fun with Coach Wratchford, he is great. It is very special to represent Moorefield. I haven’t seen many girls go to college to play basketball from here.”
Keplinger will join several Potomac Valley Conference teammates at Potomac State College from Tucker County and Union.
The Catamounts head coach Larry Kruk is excited to have Keplinger join his program.
“She is a great kid. I think she will bring a lot of hustle and effort to our program. It is kind of our pedigree we have at Potomac State College. Our kids work hard every day to get better and that’s how I coach and the type of kids I like to recruit. She will benefit our program. It is always great to find local talent. It can be tough at times, but when you can find a girl who fits your mold it is a wonderful thing. It is great to stick to our local communities,” WVU Potomac State College Women’s Basketball head coach Larry Kruk remarked.
Moorefield High School Athletic Director and Girls Basketball coach Jared Wratchford appreciates what Keplinger meant to the program and looks forward to seeing her grow at WVU Potomac State College.
“It is always special. Korbin is a really good kid. She is one of those quiet leaders, but she really loves the game. I am very happy for her and glad she gets to continue to play the game for some more years. There are always funny moments. Her funny moments are more like her quirkiness. Just like moments in practice. Something might happen and she would just give a look and everybody would crack up. She is a quiet leader, even her humor. We are extremely proud of her and wish her the best,” MHS Coach Jared Wratchford noted.
Keplinger did mention her love for pizza for breakfast, so who knows what kind of traditions will be created in Keyser with team meals and beyond.
