Flooding across the state caused a delay and continuous thunderstorms on the next game day created more of a soggy field forcing the Class AA Region II Tournament elimination game to be moved from Flatwoods to Glenville State College for play on an artificial turf on Wednesday night.
Braxton County climbed to a 4-nil advantage in the third inning, but the Yellow Jackets swarmed back with runs in the fifth and seventh innings to tie the game forcing extra innings.
Miller played two runs with the help of an error in the third inning as the Eagles took a 2-0 lead.
Braxton County added two more runs in that same frame as Wood smacked a two-run producing RBI single into left field.
Moorefield pitcher Kail Greenwalt kept the Eagles in check with four strikeouts over the first three innings, then Blake Snyder pitched the remainder of the game allowing one hit and notched two strikeouts.
Moorefield started a rally in the fifth inning as senior Ben Watts crushed a double, then scored on an error off the bat of Cyrus Kump.
Shawn Reed was issued a free pass, but was caught stealing as Kump dashed over to third base.
Yellow Jackets senior Dylan Colasessano plated Kump on a dropped third strike play for a 4-2 score.
Moorefield tied the game in the seventh inning and it all started once again with Watts hammering a double, then Kump smacked an RBI double trading places for a 4-3 score.
After a walk to Reed, Colasessano recorded an RBI single with runners the corners to tie the game.
Braxton County’s Wood jumped aboard the base path in the eighth inning due to an error, then Mays hit the game winning RBI single elevating the Eagles to a 5-4 win to advance in the regional tournament and needed the Yellow Jackets trek.
Moorefield lost to South Harrison in the opening round 7-2.
The Yellow Jacket had bases loaded in the fifth inning as Greenwalt singled, Oliver Crites walked and Snyder was hit by a pitch.
A walk to Kump plated Greenwalt, but that is all that Moorefield scored off that chance.
Moorefield created another bases loaded opportunity in the seventh inning as Crites singled , Watts slammed a double and Kump was beaned, then base runner Kody Biser stole home on a passed ball for the final score of 7-2.
