CHARLESTON – Enforcement officers with the Transportation Division of the Public Service Commission (PSC) of West Virginia were honored Friday for their outstanding participation in the Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP).

At the 2025 West Virginia Highway 2 Safety Awards Banquet, PSC enforcement officers received two awards for their exemplary efforts. Out of 155 participating agencies and 901 officers, the PSC ranked 8th in Speed Enforcement and 5th in Seat Belt Enforcement statewide.

These awards underscore the PSC’s ongoing dedication to promoting safe driving practices and enforcing commercial motor vehicle regulations across West Virginia. PSC officers work closely with local, state, and federal partners to help reduce traffic-related incidents and improve roadway safety.

The PSC has participated in the Governor’s Highway Safety Program since 2008. In the past year alone, its officers inspected nearly 20,000 trucks and issued over 1,200 GHSP citations.

“These awards highlight not just the hard work of our officers, but the dedication of every individual in our Transportation Division,” said PSC Chairman Charlotte R. Lane. “They also reflect the strength of our partnerships with other agencies. These collaborations are essential to the success of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program. Every inspection and enforcement action plays a vital role in keeping our roadways safe for everyone.”

The Governor’s Highway Safety Program focuses on improving traffic safety through education, enforcement, and public outreach.  The PSC’s Transportation Division contributes to this mission by enforcing motor carrier safety regulations and supporting statewide initiatives to reduce preventable accidents on West Virginia’s roadways.
