Moorefield 10-12 Softball pounds Grant County in Area 2 Tournament

Moorefield 10-12 Softball All-Stars drilled Grant County 12-1 in the West Virginia Little League District 6 Area 2 Tournament opener in Petersburg.

Grant County pitcher Davis issued two free passes to commence the game to Moorefield’s Kylan Markwood and Rebecca Liller.

Moorefield’s Harper Hunt executed a two-run producing sacrifice bunt with the help of an error for the initial 2-0 edge.

Naomi Markwood was hit by a pitch, then stole second base.

Nellee Sevilla was issued a walk and Markwood swiped third base in the process for runners on the corners.

Moorefield’s Bella Linville recorded an RBI sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-nil, then Darah See hit a line drive to the second baseman.

Moorefield pitcher Rebecca Liller garnered four strikeouts in the victory, but Petersburg started off the game with a single by Kile into right field.

Davis reached base on an error, then Liller countered with a strikeout and catcher Bella Linville nearly turned a double play with a throw to third base just a bit late.

Kimble notched an RBI sacrifice fly as Grant County cut the deficit to 3-1, then Liller induced a groundout to end the frame.

Moorefield’s Ally Landes drew a walk to start the second inning, then Anna-Leia Champ struck out.

Landes stole around to third base, then Avelyn Bean’s pop-up was dropped at second base for an error.

Bean stole second base and was very happy with a huge grin.

Aubrey Hose notched an RBI sacrifice bunt for a 4-1 lead.

Kylan Markwood was given a free pass, then, Liller was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Hunt crushed a two-run producing single to put Moorefield up 6-1.

A walk to Naomi Markwood loaded the bases again, then Liller scored on a wild pitch for a 7-1 lead before Sevilla struck out.

Liller put Grant County away in order on a flyout to Champ before garnering two strikeouts.

Linville commenced the third inning with a single as a towering shot ricocheted off the second baseman’s glove.

See was given a walk, then Landes struck out.

There was a miscue on Champ’s pop-up plating two runs, but Grant County was able to recover for the out at first base and retired the side on a catch off the bat of Bean, 9-1.

Grant County couldn’t get any ducks on the pond with two groundouts sandwiching a strikeout thrown by Liller.

Grant County pitcher Cox tossed a strikeout to Hose to begin the fourth inning, then Kylan Markwood reached base on an error.

Liller singled into left field as Markwood dashed to third base.

Liller wiped second base, the Hunt delivered an RBI single for a 10-1 lead.

Grant County pitcher Ella Riggleman stepped in the circle and Naomi Markwood executed a two-RBI sacrifice bunt with the help of an error to give Moorefield a 12-1 advantage.

Sevilla was issued a free pass and Linville was hit by a pitch, then a steal happened prior to a strikeout to See to retire the side.

Liller induced two groundouts, then allowed a single before ending the game with a groundout.

Moorefield advanced to the Area 2 Championship against Hampshire.
