Usually, when a phone rings, we look to see who it is, and then the choice is whether or not to answer. The call from God is the same. First, we must decide if it is our own desire or God’s, then whether or not we will answer. Most of us are not called to travel the world and help those in need. Most of us are called to just share God’s message to those that need to hear it. Some people get a call to teach or preach God’s word, and a select few are called to be missionaries.
In March of 2024, Big Blue hired Keith Jones as our Executive Director. Keith has done a great job helping Big Blue in lots of areas such as fundraising, grant writing, developing policies and procedure handbooks, and many others. Unfortunately for us, recently Keith resigned his position to take another job which is with FEMA doing hurricane clean up for about 18 months. Keith has a long history of this type of calling in his life.
When the wildfires destroyed Hawaii, Keith felt called to help, so he went for two weeks to help. Keith said this first trip was difficult because most of the relief efforts were through groups and he was alone. While in Hawaii, the first time, he made contact with Samaritans Purse, which asked him to come back. So, he traveled there again for two weeks, this time with much more of a plan and way to help. He talked about how when they helped a person, they always offered prayers and Bibles to them.
When the recent hurricanes destroyed so much in North Carolina and Florida, it became clear this would be a long and detailed cleanup. Feeling led to help, Keith applied, was hired by FEMA, and is currently awaiting deployment. While Big Blue will greatly miss him while he is gone, we know he will be doing God’s work wherever he ends up. He has told us whenever he gets breaks, he will be back volunteering in Big Blue. Thanks again, Keith, for all you have done to help the mission that is Big Blue, and we pray that this new mission will touch many lives; as our Big Blue theme song says, “Love will Hold us Together,” so know we are with you in love and spirit.
Big Blue is always looking for new volunteers, one big need left by Keith is being a bus driver. If you feel this is something you would like to do, please reach out to us through our website bigbluewv.org or our Facebook page. Thank you as always for your financial and prayer support, we could not do this without the community.
