Lucille Ellen Schorr Gohdes, our beloved mother and cherished grandmother, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Sunnyside in Harrisonburg, VA. Born on November 28, 1928, in Batesville, IN (Ripley County), she was the daughter of the late Orlando and Essie (Becker) Schorr.
On May 25, 1957, she married Otto Gohdes who preceded her in death on December 20, 1983.
She is survived by her sons, Timothy (Antje) and Brent “Pete” (Katie); her brothers, James (Jane-deceased) and Roger (Glenda) Schorr, and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Lucille graduated from Batesville High School in 1947. She earned her B.S. in 1950 and MBA in 1951 from Indiana University. In 1954, she received her CPA certificate. Lucille lived in West Virginia from 1963 to 2006 before moving to Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, VA. She served her community for many years at Gohdes & Thomas CPA in Moorefield, WV. She continues to help others through her body donation to WV School of Osteopathic Medicine.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2025, in the Bethesda Theater at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg.
While we grieve the loss of our mother, we find solace in the countless memories she leaves behind and the profound influence she had on those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Lucille's name to the Sunnyside Fellowship Fund, Harrisonburg, VA.
